We were excited to have some forest friends with us at Summer Literacy Camp today! We read Hello, Ocean by Pam Munoz Ryan and talked about all of the senses we use at the ocean. Since we aren't near the ocean...their take-home-work is a nature walk...where they can discover and list all of the things we can be aware of, using our five senses, right here at home! We also played a fun rhyming game...AND...Dr. Calvert brought a conch shell straight from the ocean...we could all hear the ocean. It was a terrific day at Summer Literacy Camp 2017!

Beebe Elementary Readers are maintaining their FIRST PLACE status for the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge! Here is the breakdown of minutes: Pre-K has read 585 minutes (We are so proud of our YOUNGEST readers!), SECOND graders have read 794 minutes so far, THIRD graders have read 1,960 minutes and leading the pack are our FOURTH grade role models who have read 6,639 minutes...so far! WOW! Keep reading summer readers!

Math Minute...This morning our Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge accounts were reporting 2,986 ADDITIONAL reading minutes...added to our previous weeks...our new total is 14,120 MINUTES READ....YES! We are going to BLAST our goal of 20,000 minutes to smithereens! We have 10 more weeks to read...how about a NEW goal of 30,000 minutes read?!?!?!?! Beebe Elementary held on to FIRST PLACE with 9,978 minutes...which, by the way, ranks them #497 of all schools participating throughout the entire United States! The leading class is Ms. Sebourn's 4th Graders. WAY TO GO BEEBE READERS, keep up the outstanding work!

We had another terrific week on the Badger Bookmobile! Thanks to all of our frequent patrons as well as some BRAND NEW patrons for coming out and choosing some great books. Dr. Calvert took FOUR boxes of books to the bookmobile on Monday morning to re-stock it...that means a lot of books were checked out during our first week on the road. Way to go, Beebe Readers!

THANK YOU to Ms. Shelly Owens for being our substitute teacher on the bookmobile last week! She did an outstanding job. As a side note, Ms. Owens class has read 1,083 summer reading minutes! She loves literacy AND she inspires her students to love literacy, as well. Thank you and WAY TO GO, Ms. Owens!
