ASU-Searcy Regional Career Center has partnered with Unity Medical Health Center to allow high school seniors to job shadow in their facility and gain more information concerning over 30 medical specialties. A few of the experiences include emergency medicine, surgery, radiology, cardiopulmonary, both physical and occupational therapy, nursing and pharmacy. This is a highly competitive program where students from all area schools apply. Students must have an interest in pursuing a medical career, a GPA of at least 3.0, good attendance, three teacher recommendations and no discipline problems. The instructor of the class conducted in depth interviews with each candidate.
Many Beebe seniors applied for this internship program and four were chosen. Madison Matthews, Katy Hamilton, Katie Pacheco and Katie Lercher were all accepted into the program. These girls started classes in August and have now started their clinicals. They will rotate in the different departments spending three days in each area of study. This is a yearlong program that provides the students with an in depth look at the medical field.
