Team Money/Bramlett is working extremely hard in math and science. In science scholars are learning how to be good scientists. Scholars have learned safety rules and symbols, how to become good observers, and that being a good scientist requires scholars to become good questioners and researchers. Scholars are now in the process of learning the history of and how to use the optical (light) microscope. Scholars have completed their first full lab and lab report for this year called “The Penny Lab” and are very excited about science. Coming up we have a microscope lab where scholars will look at ready-made slides and will make wet slides to practice using the scopes. Cells is the next big area that is covered in science. At that point we will bring in pond water and look at all the single celled and multi-celled organisms that we can find.
Team Money/Bramlett scholars are hard at work learning about ratios and rates in math class. The time flies away when scholars get into the problems and are hard at work. When time is called they can’t believe that it is time to go. While working the scholars are given time to chatter with their partner, then with their group to try to figure out a problem. One thing the scholars say to me is they love it when I give them a ‘for instance’ problem. This is when I take the work they are working on up a notch and use harder numbers which causes them to have to think in different ways in order to solve the problems. All is going Great!
