This week in Mrs. Belew’s Science class students have been studying speed, velocity, acceleration, motion, etc. They have practiced finding the speed by dividing distance by time, and then they graphed their results. Students finally got to put their hard work to the test in two fun labs.
First lab: Students got to chew gum in class (oh no!) while timing themselves. They counted the number of chews that they got in a certain amount of time and found their average chewing speed. In the picture we had some fun with the gum before we spit it out!
Second lab: Later in the week, students got to play with a toy car as we timed how long it would take for it to zoom past certain points, A-D. Students then put their knowledge into application and found the speed throughout each trial. Students learned a lot and saw just how much math is involved in science.
