Things are getting wild in Mr. Belew's Science Class. This semester the students are learning about ecosystems, climate, biomes, food chains and food webs. They are learning that the food webs here on our planet can be very fragile structures and that every living thing has an important roll to play. From the smallest living things to large mammals, everything plays a part.
In the activity pictured, the students were assigned a random part of a food chain. Then, using yarn they were able to trace the flow of energy through and around the food chain. It was a lot of fun for the students, even the ones that got to play parts such as persimmons and acorns which everyone seemed to want to eat. You could always depend on maggots, mushrooms and bacteria to clean up any messy left overs, and for some reason the vulture always seemed to be hovering right near the possum!
